TAKEAWAY: The shape of things to come: print products that appear less than daily—-but fill a need, as in the power to disconnect.
It has a catchy name—-_Do Something_—-and I see it more than another print product in the market, launching in 2014.
The Guardian News and Media has announced the launch this weekend of a this new monthly print supplement to be published with its Saturday edition.
For those of us who love print: wonderful to see the birth of a print product in the year 2014, when so many gloom and doom types rejoice announcing the end of print altogether.
For those of us who study media trends: this is the shape of things to come. We will see more weekend products in print, as well as more robust print editions of newspapers globally, fortified with tablet editions that are curated to amplify the content of print with videos, audio and all that tablets allow us to do.
“Print remains at the core of our business,” one Guardian executive was quoted.
For a media group that is very digital first oriented, this is a positive vote of confidence.
Let’s hope Do Something becomes a success with the readers as well.
