Those design guys at The Washington Post have done it again.
The local baseball team, The Nationals, went all the way to the World Series, crowning themselves the champs of baseball. It doesn’t get better. In a city where division via political parties and agendas is the norm, more so today than ever, this event unified everyone, regardless of political affiliation.
It was great to see the city celebrating.

It was even better to see the power of print via what WaPo Design Director Greg Manifold has described as a major effort to produce hundreds of pages of coverage.
And not just any coverage: take a look at the way the stories are written, the headlines showcased, and the photos. Here is the WED (Writing/Editing/Design) concept at its best.
In the words of Greg Manifold:
I am extremely proud of the entire Washington Post organization for pulling off this tour de force for the #Nationals #WorldSeries victory. This is a 72-hour snapshot of the hundreds of pages built. Kudos to the writers, editors, photogs, production teams and our wonderful designers. sign) concept working at its best.
Take a look at these pages covering and celebrating The Nationals championship!

Mario García
Editorial consultant Mario García has advised the most important newsrooms in the world on design – and how best adapt to a digital transition. More than 700 publications, from The Wall Street Journal to the South China Morning Post, have received his strategic steer. Other than being an adjunct professor at Columbia University’s School of Journalism, he also runs his own consultancy firm: García Media. Nowadays his speciality is how digital devices influence narrative structure and consumption; his latest book, The Story, was written specifically to be read on a phone. Here, though, he confesses to a few analogue pleasures.
