It is not just about color and glitz for German’s weekend newspaper editions.
It is also vibrant content that deals with topics normally reserved for publication in magazines. It would be rare to find traditional newsy stories on the front pages of these newspapers shown here.
The front pages of the German newspapers I show here all include stories that allow for the long read, the ultimate lean back experience and all in print.
I like what I see here. It is part of what I mentioned to my Columbia class Monday when we devoted a class period to print: it is the weekend editions of printed newspapers that will be around long after the Monday through Friday editions are gone.
I believe very strongly that readers will always seek the escape from all things digital for a couple of hours during the weekend.
These papers are all examples that you can seduce readers to simply take off their shoes, relax and go for a pleasurable reading experience, the kind where you turn the pages and smell the ink!
