Great linear storytelling

My Columbia students were assigned to find a story told in a linear, visual way, and I find these three stories to be excellent examples.

In all of these stories we see how the marriage of the narrative and the visuals contribute to tell the story in an engaging way. Let’s take a look and see why they are such good examples.

Here is The New Yorker: The White Darkness

Tip: Interactive first section, and great symphony of video, photos and pulled quotes.

Here is Frontline: The Last Generation

Tip: The story is told through three characters, mixing videos, photos and animation.

Tip: Clever use of a time-lapse image of the rocket launch.

A cover we like

These stories show what linear storytelling can do to enhance the content of a story.
