Linear thinking for storytelling does not necessarily have to involve visuals. In this example from The New York Times, we see how a selection of quotes help tell the reactions to President Trump’s decision to pull the United States from the Paris Accord on climate change.
Subheads help organize the quotes by categories and sources.
Another example of good storytelling for mobile which does not emphasize the traditional system of headline, summary and text.
I would be interested to experiment with such a treatment for print, and I think it would work there, too.
