I know that there is nothing new about long distance learning.
In fact, I have been involved in about four to six webinars per year in the recent past.
However, I am mesmerized by how this Master Class I will teach Wednesday for the Interamerican Press Association (SIP) will facilitate the process.
This is a class conducted in Spanish for more than 170 journalists and designers from 17 countries. The organizers of the course use a program called Firestorm, and it is a virtual auditorium, complete with a giant screen and even a “library” section where the speaker can deposit additional documents that the participants can sample.
My course is devoted to Transforming Journalism in the Mobile Eraand I will walk the participants to good examples of linear storytelling, newsroom organization and how stories flow today.
It’s been fun to learn the program, discover my avatar right up there by the podium and to know that I can move myself to either face the screen or the audience, and can also answer questions as they appear during my presentation.
And all of this while sitting comfortably in my living room in New York City.
Bravo for the new technology!
