TAKEAWAY: Another study, another reminder that the iPad is our nocturnal companion and king of the night. BUT: Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 10.1 claims to be changing the tablet.
Yesterday we posted information about recent studies that tell us more about how tablet users behave.
We are seeing that the patters are repeated, a good thing for all of us developing apps.
Today, I bring you another study, where the highlights follow close to what we have seen before:
What time we use devices: Device usage is at its lowest during the early hours of the morning and rises as the world wakes. After 10 a.m. there is a slow increase during the workday
The iPad king of the night: iPad use dips after breakfast, remains low during traditional working hours and does not peak until much later in the evening. But, for those planning curated app editions, take notice: During the weekends iPad usage between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. is higher than it is during the week at those same hours. We don’t see this development with other devices, which leads us to reaffirm our concept that the tablet is a “lean back” and relax platform.
It is a sign that a medium is here to stay, and gaining maturity, when the competition charges aggressively.
In this case it is the new Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, with a marketing campaign that one sees everywhere. I particularly like one line in the message that reads: It’s the tablet that’s changing the tablet.
You see, change is in the air, competition among the tablet devices is only starting, and we are all to benefit from this.
How is the Galaxy Tab 10.1 changing the tablet? According to the message in the ad, it is time time work and play without the hassle of opening and closing apps. In other words, go Android 3.1.
Let the fun begin.
