Print edition of The Story is here!

What a happy surprise to arrive at my home in New York City after almost two weeks away and have copy of the print edition of my new mobile storytelling book, The Story, waiting!

Now The Story is the latest addition to my coffee table.

I confess that a print edition of The Story was not in my initial plan, but, after seeing it, I thank my publisher, Thane Boulton, of Thane & Prose, for insisting that there will be print editions of The Story’s three books: Transformation, Storyteling, Design.

I imagine that the path we have followed here is the one I recommend to all who participate in my mobile first workshops. Conceptualize the product as mobile, then take it to other platforms.

Here is what you will see in print:

The same design concept that was created for mobile has been transferred to the print edition. As a result, you will find that the text type is large and easy to read.

All the various storytelling structures that work well for mobile are also working effectively for print. For example, billboards that highlight a specific important point I wish to make in the narrative:

In the same way, I utilize such structures as Notes, to highlight a point that should not be buried in the middle of the text:

There are no chapters in the traditional definition in The Story. But there are segments to introduce various topics, as we see here:

Here is the simple, one screen, style guide for the book, as designed by Paula Ripoll, senior art director, Garcia Media Latinamerica.

The newspaper remains the most powerful source of storytelling on the planet. But technology threatens its very existence. To survive, the Editor must transform, adapt, and manage the newsroom in a new way. Order The Story by Mario Garcia, chief strategist for the redesign of over 700 newspapers around the world.
