Oddities

Here is one that surprised me. But, heck, why not?

This is the weekend edition of TheMarioBlog and will be updated as needed. The next blog post is Monday, September 24.

I am enjoying reading The New York Times‘ latest daily newsletter: On Politics.

It is clever, informative and offers a good summary of the important political news of the day.

Yet, I was quite surprised reading the September 18 edition of the newsletter when, suddenly, as I scrolled, I ran into an ad for the FT (Financial Times).

I guess an ad is an ad, and the space goes to whoever pays for it. All good and sound, except I thought that perhaps the two newspapers vie for the same type of readers. Take a look.

An oddity, indeed.

Talking about the power of red

Here is this week’s cover of TIME. Red as the color of passion for a truly passionate subject in the United States at the moment: the confirming of a possible new Justice for the Supreme Court. A hot story that qualifies for this red treatment.

Our earlier blog post on the color red:

It’s red all over

The Way They Were

If you are like  me, you always enjoy taking a look at how first editions of newspapers looked like.

This piece shows us 9 of the most famous US newspapers on the day of their birth!  Fun.

Text driven, for sure. No signs of photos, of course.

And some funny names: take a look at what The San Francisco Chronicle was called back then.
