Newsletters started as email reminders of news we should know.
They evolved into mini-newspapers delivered to your mailbox at different times of the day, including the only Newsletter I know which aims at the happy hour crowd, Vanity Fair’s Cocktail Hour.https://www.garciamedia.com/blog/the-cocktail-hour-newsletter/
But there are many newsletters competing for our attention.
We all develop loyalty—and addiction—to some: in my case, the Times’, The Post Most (Washington Post) and Axios’.
Those suffice to offer me the overview of the news I crave for.
I may glance at Vanity Fair’s Cocktail Hour, but not regularly.
And I am getting into the Impeach Newsletter from the Times, offering summaries in the midst of a tsunami of news on this controversial story.
I am referring to the Times’ WAIT, which focuses very precisely on few items, then reminds us that we should truly pick only two items:
Here are five things you need to know right now! Actually, pick two; you shouldn’t learn five things in one day.
Ok, I am not so sure about the hierarchy of importance of these items, so I let you be the judge for this edition of WAIT:
1. Your bra size is fine. Stop worrying about it. But, it’s still possible you don’t quite know how to wear it right, according to a bunch of bra experts. |
2. You can find out which friend is snitching on you to the tabloids by taking your Close Friends group on Instagram down to just one person and feeding that person a fake story. We explain the tabloid soccer-wife scandal gripping Britain, and also provide context for those of us who just found out about tabloids, soccer, wives or terrific acts of deceit. |
3. How much is your car ruining the environment? Now you can know — with graphs! |
4. And here’s what we know about Turkey, America and the Kurds. |
5. Finally, here’s everything we know, up to date, about the impeachment situation. It’s extremely spicy! If you need it delivered, you can sign up for our impeachment newsletter. It’s very helpful, with life coming at you fast and all. |
In this case, a story about “your bra size” takes precedence over the invasion of Turkey into Syria.
The last item of five is the impeachment inquiry.
Who decides that a bra size story is #! and the impeachment is #5? I guess, you, the consumer, does

Other than being an adjunct professor at Columbia University’s School of Journalism, he also runs his own consultancy firm: García Media.
