Here are some of my favorite takeaways. Tip: storytelling and video are highlights.
As I sat in the audience of Newscamp 2018 Wednesday, waiting for my turn to speak today during a keynote presentation, I enjoyed the speakers opening the program
and their message, especially the emphasis on storytelling, a subject that I will concentrate on for my own presentation.
Here are three speakers and their highlights, as I presented them live streaming via Tweeter.
Ken Doctor, Newsonomics
Gerold Riedmann, Rūssmedia
Media in Transition: Strategies for a digital future
Micah Gelman, Director of Video, Washington Post
All Eyes on Video: Insights from The Washington Post
Micah started his presentation with a spectacular montage of recent WaPo videos covering both breaking news, investigative pieces and features.
Helje Solberg, CEO, VGTV
Focus on Video: The Story of VGTV
Highlights of this presentation were:
-Connecting with younger audience, presenting a more visual internet
-Experimenting much more beyond traditional articles.
“We need to integrate video and photos and use different type of storytelling techniques,” Helje said. “Not all stories need to be told via text.”
Helje’s conclusion:
“We need to do it all, enlighten, entertain, investigate and engage”
And a somber reminder: “According to Snapchat anyone over 24 is old.”
Lessons learned:
“We are still too desktop oriented, we must learn more about mobile.”
