If you don’t make it in politics, then maybe you try your hand at publishing a newspaper. A good idea for two former competitors for a Denver City Council seat who decided to team up to bring a local newspaper to northwest Denver. The Denver North Star’s first edition will hit doorsteps on Tuesday.
Former rivals for Denver City Council Sabrina D’Agosta and David Sabados launched the new monthly newspaper this week. It has a print edition, too.
You can check out the digital edition here:
The new newspaper is all about local, local, local, as we see in the type of stories that appear in the first edition. Take a look at this one:
Little Man Ice Cream Opens Park Hill Location
I am sure readers are happy to see the new newspapers, which fills a void left open two years ago when the Denver Tribune folded , leaving those neighborhoods without the very local news. The North Star is hoping to fill in with a hyper-local focus. The founders say businesses have felt the void and are eager to reach local customers. A win win.
We wish The North Denver Star much success. And we applaud the two politicians turned publishers for daring to dream big with the creation of a newspaper at a time when we attend newspaper funerals more often than baptisms.

Mario García
Editorial consultant Mario García has advised the most important newsrooms in the world on design – and how best adapt to a digital transition. More than 700 publications, from The Wall Street Journal to the South China Morning Post, have received his strategic steer. Other than being an adjunct professor at Columbia University’s School of Journalism, he also runs his own consultancy firm: García Media. Nowadays his speciality is how digital devices influence narrative structure and consumption; his latest book, The Story, was written specifically to be read on a phone. Here, though, he confesses to a few analogue pleasures.
