So, finally, the semester is almost over, and today the students in my Multiplatform Design & Storytelling class at Columbia University’s School of Journalism, will present their final project stories.
The assignment consists of writing/editing/designing a multimedia story that shows what they have learned this semester. My course has covered the essentials of design, mobile first strategies, and, specifically, linear storytelling for mobile.
This is what the students’ final presentation must include:
It is not just about writing the story, but also the students have spent considerable time working on that first screen where they “sell” their story and seduce the reader to continue scrolling.
Then, as reporters must do today, the students will show how they would promote their story on social media outlets.
Finally, they present their story. We have worked for weeks on transitioning, context, texture and design elements of the story.
I will be posting links to their stories in the days to come.
We will have visitors in class today to help with the review of the projects. They are Raju Narisetti, James Reyman and Ina Saltz, all of whom visited us as guest speakers during the semester.

Monocle interviews me about what I do on a typical weekend (is there such a thing? Not for someone like me who is seldom in the same location twice. But I gave it my best shot, for what may come as a normal weekend, when I am home in New York! Enjoy.
