There is an interesting story behind the name that the folks at Airbnb, the popular holiday rental outlet, have given their new font.
It’s called Cereal and the name has everything to do with the beginnings of the firm, when its creators decided to raise funds using Obama and McCain cereal boxes, with real cereal in it, by the way.
Now it is better times for Airbnb, and, as the execs decided they wanted to develop a font of their own, one that that would cover all its typesetting needs, from website and apps to billboards, then Cereal became the most appropriate name.
Here are some of the essentials about Cereal:
Name: Cereal
Designers: Airbnb’s marketing, design language, and experience design teams
Foundry: Dalton Maag
Release Date: May 2018

Cereal has been designed to be legible across all of Airbnb’s various platforms, and will roll out to online applications including the website and app, as well as physical sites such as billboards.
