It is wonderful to read this blurb in The New York Times’ morning briefing of May 1, making a reference to a good piece published by what could be considered a rival, The Guardian.
On the one hand, we have the Times’ good will. On the other, it is a recognition that our audiences today are not loyal to just one title. We all have our list of favorites that we follow, in a ritualistic manner as our day begins and as it goes on.
Gone are the days when we got out of bed, picked up a copy of our newspaper at the front door—-the one that we subscribed to, and that our parents and grandparents did, too—-read it cover to cover, then went about our day without any further contact with news.
Today, it is a rainbow of possibilities when it comes to our news reading at any time of the day. For me, it is a combination of The Times, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, El Pais (Spain) and sometimes La Nacion (Argentina), with intermediate stops by The Miami Herald, Axios and, of course, Apple News.
The Washington Post publishes a newsletter titled The Post Most which takes us to interesting reads not just from The Post, but also from variety of publications that include Time and The Atlantic, regional newspapers like The Denver Post and The Houston Chronicle, broadcasters like New York Public Radio and digital publications like Slate and The Dodo.
