Today, readers have little time and zero patience. They come home, check email, order a book on Amazon, flip on CNN and rifle through mail, catalogs, and your newspaper. This is your competition.

For over thirty years, we’ve been the experts in creating compelling design for publications like The Wall Street Journal, The Miami Herald, Newsday, Die Zeit and hundreds more. Now we’ve developed a way to “grade” the effectiveness of your newspaper.

Garcia Evaluator is a process where we analyze your newspaper — section by section — based on what we’ve learned through interviews, focus groups, eyetracking studies, and plain old experience.

Specifically, we look at:
• A1 architecture and content
• Section architecture and pacing
• Page hierarchy and typography
• Story structures
• Editorial tone
• Image usage

But we don’t just criticize. We deliver a complete report, with specific ideas on how to improve pages and gain readers. These could be content or editing ideas, page structure ideas, or cover ideas.

We’ve priced Garcia Evaluator to fit within the leanest of budgets. We can also come onsite for a full day workshop with your staff on how to make your publication more effective. We’ll review the report and work over the shoulder with your designers and editors.

We also offer Garcia Evaluator for the web, where we’ve helped publications from Newsday to The Wall Street Journal create more effective online presences.
