I am always interested to see what design tools editors and designers pull out when there is a story of the magnitude that this was:
On Sunday President Donald Trump declared that ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi was dead after a US military raid in northwest Syria over the weekend. The President said a US special operations forces mission went after the ISIS leader, who was on a terrorists most wanted list for years.
Here is a sampling of headlines. I find it interesting that a majority of the headlines used attribution, either as “Trump says,” or “US says”.
The New York Times displayed a six column banner at the top of the page, a move that signals “this is a very significant story.”
Most US newspapers played the story on Page One, but not always as the lead piece:

Mario García
Editorial consultant Mario García has advised the most important newsrooms in the world on design – and how best adapt to a digital transition. More than 700 publications, from The Wall Street Journal to the South China Morning Post, have received his strategic steer. Other than being an adjunct professor at Columbia University’s School of Journalism, he also runs his own consultancy firm: García Media. Nowadays his speciality is how digital devices influence narrative structure and consumption; his latest book, The Story, was written specifically to be read on a phone. Here, though, he confesses to a few analogue pleasures.
