AL DIA: Means “up-to-date” in Spanish. It’s new (nuevo), colorful (con mucho color), and newsy (noticioso).

It is also the one Spanish-language daily that Hispanics in Dallas have been anticipating for a long time. Published by the Dallas Morning News, the new Al Dia will publish a full news report, along with features, entertainment and sports.

The emphasis will be on local news, as well as complete reporting of news from Mexico – home to a large majority of Dallas’ Hispanics – as well as Central, South America and the Caribbean.

The Garcia Media team, led by Mario Garcia, worked closely with Gilbert Bailon, president and editor of Al Dia, as well as Charles Brown, Dallas Morning News design director.

Prototypes were prepared and tested over the past eight months, leading to the model that readers in Dallas see.

“This is a great opportunity for us to publish Al Dia, and we are proud of all the work that has gone into making this new newspaper something that all Hispanics can be very proud of,” Bailon said.

The newspaper’s mission is simple: Capture the hearts and minds of Hispanics as the leading Spanish language provider of news and advertising.

“We would like to become a leading voice for Hispanics by providing the most credible news and information in the Southwest,” says Alfredo Carbajal-Madrid, managing editor of Al Dia.
