One of our Garcia Media projects this year has been to work with the Chicago-based team of Catholic Extension, a quarterly magazine that is the voice of Catholic Extension's mission ” to strengthen the Church in America's poor mission dioceses”.
That is why we are so excited to see that the magazine may already be in the hands of Pope Francis! Indeed, members of the Catholic Extension board of governors, including Archbishop Blase Cupich, traveled to Rome for a general audience with the Holy Father.
“During our interaction with the Holy Father, we were able to show him an image of “Flat Francis” – part of a social media campaign created by Catholic Extension to welcome the pope to America. Since its launch earlier this year, photos have been received from every state in the U.S. of the cutout with the hashtag #FlatFrancis as a way to welcome Pope Francis to America. I also had the opportunity to show him Extension magazine, the organization’s official publication, which just came out and features the Holy Father on the cover,” said Cupich.
We hope that the Pope liked the new Catholic Extension magazine, easier to read, with better use of typography, color, better navigation and a more contemporary look. Work on this project was carried by Garcia Media's Reed Reibstein, with local art direction by Elio Leturia. We worked closely with Catholic Extension's editor Liz Boo, who had this to say?
“We are delighted that Mario’s team could give our magazine a fresh, updated look. Of course, being able to hand a copy of the latest issue to Pope Francis himself – with his image on the cover – is a dream we had not imagined. But we are thrilled!”
