Black and white: elegance that never gets old

Apparently neither does the elegance of Carmen Dell’Orefice, the oldest working model, who is the cover girl for L’Officiel Magazine this month.

This is the weekend edition of TheMarioBlog and will be updated as needed. The next blog post is Monday, March 19.

This cover of the Swiss edition of L’Officiel stands out while surrounded by other magazine titles at the Zurich Airport SWISS Lounge.

It is not only its cover subject, the American model, Carmen Dell’Orefice, who, at 86 is said to be the oldest working fashion model. Described in this piece as a “mysterious beauty”, she was on the cover of Vogue at the age of 15 and has been modeling ever since.

Ms. Dell’Orefice, 86, appears glamorous and looking not a year over 60 on page after page of a cover story devoted to her, La Grande Dame.

That the art director of L’Officiel decided to go mostly with white and white for the cover story fits perfectly well with the theme and its subject: beauty and elegance as timeless.

This was by far the most elegant and noticeable cover of all the magazines on the shelf and/or newsstand.

While not appropriate for all occasions, a black and white display can be welcoming and a good surprise, departing from all the color that surrounds us.

Pages we like

Here is the latest edition of Z, the weekend supplement of the Swiss newspaper, Neuen Zürcher Zeitung . I like the minimalism that works so well, almost with the precision of a good Swiss watch.  The photos have no captions, but they are not missed .  White space is an important part of the visual formula.
