FirstFT, which is a free email, features must-reads from the FT and other sources and spans across time zones.
I just sampled an initial FirstFT and it includes about 10 items, but with a sense of hierarchy for the first lead item, in this case the re-election of Dilma Rousseff as Brazil’s president.
This edition of FirstFT took me to stories via The Verge, Reuters, FT, of course, and a surprise, even the rival The Wall Street Journal.
The question for me and for many other news consumers? How many of these briefings can we tend to? Which will survive as we decide that there is only so much time to devote to these curated news summaries?
So far, I have become addicted to Quartz, with its seductive headlines (today's gem: Chinese Democracy would be a Nighmare for the World), but more often than not ignore Yahoo’s News Digest, which, while well designed visually, does not offer the same type of content surprises as Quartz.
With each new curated email newsletter, the challenge is on to write better headlines, for better content that will become necessary and essential in our daily news consumption.

Here is how Poynter describes the event:
In this exclusive Poynter NewsU event, Mario will highlight the lessons learned from his spectacular career, while pointing out the decision points and philosophies that led him to where he is today. He will take questions on design, redesign, innovation and, of course, storytelling.
