Everyone apparently loves Marty Baron. Not just love him, but those quoted in the Esquire piece, fall into a sort of adoration fan club.
He is described as one of the best editors Dean Baquet, executive editor of The New York Times, ever encountered. Another former colleague of Marty says that he personifies the purest form of journalism and all agree that journalism is Marty's life, which he seems to enjoy to the fullest.
He has been at The Miami Herald, Los Angeles Times, The Boston Globe and now at The Washington Post.
Which means that I would have had a chance to work with Marty Baron at at least two of those titles, but it did not happen.
Add that to my list of professional regrets. But, wait, I have not retired yet!
I also must add that I have been fortunate to work with several editors who match Marty's qualities, and for that I am grateful.
