The New York Times: one story, three platforms

Here is a good example of presenting a story across platforms: surprisingly, this shows that it is possible to transfer a story from digital to print quite efficiently

This is the weekend edition of TheMarioBlog and will be updated as needed. The next blog post is Monday, August 20, and I will be reporting from Hamburg, Germany.

Here is a New York Times story that has it all: a timely, consequential topic ( a chemical attack in Syria which killed many), plenty of visual assets such as video and graphics, plus the added virtual reality element in which the Times’ team  “created virtual crime scene to investigate this bombing. “Explore the scene in augmented reality.

As a constant student of digital storytelling and how stories can be adapted to various platforms, I was surprised to see that the print version of the story was not handled as another headline and text driven piece.  Instead, take a look here and you will see that the same headline, summary and even graphics of the digital versions of the story made it to the printed page, quite successfully.

The practical side of producing such a story

We see that the headline, the summary and many of the visual components of this story have been used across platforms, thus simplifying production and the work of those in charge of curating the material and presenting it through various platforms.
