Show me your print product!

It is a great bonus to those digital briefings and newsletters when publishers decide to include a pdf of the newspaper’s printed edition front page.

While I may be reading my New York Times or my El Pais geographically distant from the cities where those newspapers are published (New York and Madrid, for example), it is always nice to get a feel for how the printed edition looks like for a given day.

That’s why I am happy to see that The New York Times has started to include its front page in print pdf as part of its digital briefing. Good idea.

I don’t think that this will entice readers to run to the newsstand and buy a copy of the newspaper, although on some days it might.

What this does, however, is to give us a sense that the media house whose content we are reading is multi-platform and offers news and information to us when we want it, where we want it.

Talking about print

Love the way The Washington Post handled this 30-page commemorative section on the Stanley Cup victory. If you would like to see this in the flesh, visit to order the June 11th edition or other dates.

A real wonderful design that highlights the importance of the event (a first for the local team) and also provides continuity.  Photography shines here. Bravo, WaPo design team.
