Doing print happily via visual surprises

I am always excited to see a print edition of a newspaper where it is obvious an art director has put emphasis on visuals to help the stories.

I have spent this week working with the team of Germany’s financial daily, Handelsblatt.

While our work on a refresh of the print edition design will not launch until later this year, I was happy to flip through the pages of the Thursday, Sept. 2, edition and see that so many pages include attractive visuals to help brick-solid business stories appear more visually appealing.

The edition starts off with a mini poster on its front page, lifting the lead story immediately:
