Audio is hot. Podcasts are popular and more of them appearing all the time. According to my fellow Columbia journalism professor, Joanne Faryon, there are about 1.8 million podcasts out there, with a total of 43 million episodes.
In Germany, NOZ Digital, a media group with dozens of dailies in the northern region of the country, has become number one for all things related to content presented via audio. I was witnessing the development of audio and podcasts for NOZ Digital all through 2019 as I worked as a consultant with the group.
It was then that I had a chance to meet, Patrick Korting, the young man who is Head of Audio at NOZ Digital, and who is quick becoming Mr. Audio and spreading the gospoel throughout Germany. That is why I am not surprised to see that audio continues to win the day for NOZ Digital in attracting new audiences.
I asked Patrick to give me an update:
We are currently publishing about 35.000 audio articles and 12 Podcasts per month through 15 different technical applications (NewsApp, ePaper, Web).
We are currently one of the leading media houses when it comes to audio strategies and it´s execution.
I actually think there will be an entirely new type of media within the next years – somewhere between radio and newspapers. Exciting!
