When infographics tell the story on Page One

Effective, direct and aesthetically pleasing, these graphics rock.

Take a look at the graphics above. When you do a Tweet you have 130 characters to tell the highlight of your story. Here is the equivalent in a graphic format; Fighting Covid19 in the classrooms–open the windows.

These beautifully drawn infographics are given enough space on the front page of The New York Times to allow the scanner who may not read the story to know what it is all about and, more importantly, get the message that needs to be remembered.

This, too, is what print can do best–to offer space, the large and open canvas of a broadsheet page. But, alas, the digital/mobile presentation offered its own special features, as we see below;

How story played on mobile

Inquire about our mobile storytelling workshops!

Every week I bring my mobile storytelling workshop to a different newsroom around the world. I begin with a 90-minute presentation about the essentials of crafting/editing/designing stories for mobile consumption. Then I break the participants into groups and for two hours they produce a mobile story which they then present to the entire group for evaluation. It works all the time.

Another type of Garcia Media program is when we sign up for mobile storytelling coaching after completion of the first workshop. Once a week, or as planned, I work virtually with a team of reporters, editors, designers on actual stories that will be published as linear mobile stories.
