Photographer captures an eerie New York City

These photos were taken Tuesday night by my photographer friend, Enrique Figueroa.

Frank Sinatra’s iconic son, New York, New York, reminds us that it is the city that never sleeps.

It’s also the city where “it you can make it there, you will make it anywhere.”

Today, the city seems to be taking a long nap, and nobody knows when it will wake up from it.

As for making it in New York City in the days of the Coronavirus is more like surviving the epidemic. That, at the end of the day , is the ultimate sign of success for New Yorkers in a city where 1 out of 1000 persons has been contaminated. The cases triple every two days, with no end in sight.

I am a New Yorker who was lucky to leave 10 days ago to find refuge in my other home in Tampa, Florida, close to my children and grandchildren, although I am in a self imposed quarantine.

The photography of Enrique Figueroa

Enrique can be seen on normal days doing fashion photo shoots, casting models and just taking his camera with him everywhere. He shoots for architectural magazines, for general interest publications and has a way with the lens, as you can see in the images here.

Since the start of this pandemic I was fearful it will hit NYC in a worse way than it hit other parts of the world given the fact that we live in a densely populated area and we share spaces and services with many other individuals.
Yet, I wanted to document the usually crowded streets and locations as parts of a ghost town. it’s quite ironic that we have built all this wealth and grandeur just to see it crumble in a matter of days by a tiny particle…
