This is the weekend edition of TheMarioBlog and will be updated as needed. The next blog post is Monday, October 7.
The Inter American Association (Sociedad Interamericana de Prensa, SIP) and I have a long term relationship dating three decades plus! I have been honored to be a part of several SIP conferences, seminars and workshops in various countries of Latin America. I always emerge energized and full of admiration for the work that my fellow journalists and designers carry out in newspapers and magazines in their countries, often working against the odds, both in terms of the technology available, and, more importantly, the tides of government censorship, which come and go as those in charge change.
However, today is a happy occasion as the SIP holds its 75th Annual Assembly in beautiful Coral Gables, Florida, at the historic Biltmore Hotel, a landmark pink beauty with the spirit of the 1920s, and a personally dear place for me, as I held my Mom’s 80th birthday there, a night to remember.
During my presentation this morning, I will introduce my new book The Story, which will be published in its Spanish translation very soon (date of launch to be announced). The book was translated by Miguel Angel Gomez and Jorge Reparaz.
Art direction by Paula Ripoll, Garcia Media senior art director.
We have decided to call the book The Story regardless of what language it is translated into. Everyone understands the power of that title!

THE INTERROGATOR / EDITION 30
Mario García
Editorial consultant Mario García has advised the most important newsrooms in the world on design – and how best adapt to a digital transition. More than 700 publications, from The Wall Street Journal to the South China Morning Post, have received his strategic steer. Other than being an adjunct professor at Columbia University’s School of Journalism, he also runs his own consultancy firm: García Media. Nowadays his speciality is how digital devices influence narrative structure and consumption; his latest book, The Story, was written specifically to be read on a phone. Here, though, he confesses to a few analogue pleasures.
