Wall Street Journal and two decades of its online edition

Watch out when you use the word “legacy” to refer to only print.  There is legacy for online, as well, and one of the pioneers in putting its newspaper edition online, The Wall Street Journal, celebrates 20 years of wsj.com

Take a look here and you will see the progress of http://wsj.com through the 20 years since it was one of the first newspapers in the world to introduce an online edition.

We at Garcia Media were involved with the team for one of its iterations around 2000.  The evolution has been constant, but with the DNA of the Wall Street Journal always present, especially the What's News summary, which I have always thought to be one of the most visionary features on the front page of any newspaper. Introduced more than 70 years ago, it was aimed at providing summaries of the top stories of the day in one place, on the front page, for busy business readers.

That's exactly what all digital editions try to do–some more successfully than others–today.
